IPL 2024, MI vs LSG: KL Rahul, Pooran help LSG outclass MI
Capping off their IPL 2024 campaign on a thrilling note, Lucknow Super Giants managed to secure an 18-run victory over Mumbai Indians, who had already been eliminated from the tournament, on Friday at Wankhede Stadium. The outstanding performances from KL Rahul and Nicholas Pooran, who scored (55) and (75) runs respectively, helped LSG put up a competitive total of 214/6 in (20) overs.
Put into bat, LSG were off to a great start, with skipper KL Rahul scoring (55). However, they lost a couple of early wickets in Devdutt Padikkal and Deepak Hooda. But, KL Rahul steadied the innings with his composed and strategic play. Marcus Stoinis made (28) off (22), helping KL Rahul prop up the scoring. Lower the order, dangerous Nicholas Pooran took center stage, unleashing a flurry of boundaries and sixes. His explosive (75) off (29) deliveries powered LSG to a formidable total.
Chasing the total, Mumbai Indians’ openers Rohit Sharma and Dewald Brevis started off brilliantly, smashing (68) and (23) respectively. But, MI went on to lose four wickets one after another that dwindled their smooth start. Despite a commendable effort from Naman Dhir scoring (62*) off (28), MI struggled to maintain the required run rate, finishing on (196) in (20).
