“Biggest threat”: Michael Clarke on India ahead of T20I World Cup

Team India are set to kick off their T20I World Cup campaign from June 5 with the clash against Ireland at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. India are hoping to break their ICC title drought, having failed to do so in last 10 years. In the build up to the T20I World Cup 2024, India named their 15-member squad that included four spinners. India in their squad are having power hitters with the likes of Rishabh Pant, skipper Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal

But, former Australian skipper Michael Clarke believes that India have included way more spinners in their squad and it could be detrimental to their campaign at the World Cup. However, he also maintained that conditions in West Indies will be favourable for spinners. India have all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel who are well capable of handling both batting and bowling. Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal are the two proper spinners in the squad.

"I think India have taken a risk with the squad they have picked - heavily reliant on spin, very different from Australia. But in the conditions that I have played in the Caribbean I think how you play spin is going to be a huge part of whether you succeed or not. India are the biggest threat for me with regards to who is going to win the World Cup," Clarke said on ESPN.

Clarke also pointed that India are going to be the favourite at the World Cup with the amount of preparation they have done.

"If you look at the favourites for the World Cup it's got to be India just because of the amount of cricket they have played, their preparation has been outstanding. Conditions are different to India but there are a lot of similarities so the players would be used to that," he added.
