Stoinis stars as Australia demolish Oman

Carrying on with his red-hot form, Australian allrounder Marcus Stoinis played an invaluable role in Australia’s hard-fought victory against Oman on Thursday at Kensington Oval Barbados. Australia secured a 39-run win to begin their T20I World Cup campaign on a positive note. After starring with the bat, scoring (67) unbeaten to fire Australia to 164/5 in (20), Stoinis returned with three wickets, helping Australia crush Oman. Stoinis shared a 102-run stand with David Warner, who hit (56 off 51) after Australia were asked to bat.
Oman demonstrated their competency against world-class Australia, however they fell (39) runs short of the target to succumb to their defeat. Stoinis’ top-class performance was replete with eye-catching shots, blasting six sixes and two fours. Australia had omitted Pat Cummins from their playing XI, but thanks to Stoinis whose three scalps restricted Oman for just 125/9 in (20) overs.
Surprisingly, Glenn Maxwell continued with his horrendous form, falling for a golden duck after being caught by Mehran Khan off Aqib llyas. Travis Head (12 off 10) and Mitchell Marsh (14 off 21) struggled to remain effective. Not to undermine, Oman’s disciplined bowling was a fine piece of work. This victory not only provided Australia with a crucial early win but also alerted them to be ready for any challenge.
