"The way he was": Former Indian player's jaw-dropping remarks on Pandya

Indian allrounder Hardik Pandya made an extraordinary return to form during India’s World Cup opener against Ireland that was won by India by eight wickets. As Pandya donned the Indian jersey, he looked to be back to his best, returning with three wickets and helping India bowl out Ireland for (96) in (20) overs. Hardik Pandya’s comeback to form comes at a crucial time as India seek to break their ICC title drought. Even, during India’s warm-up game against Bangladesh, Pandya made a valuable contribution.

Pandya has already faced an enormous amount of criticism for his torrid form at the IPL 2024, but recent success will give him some relief. There was no shortage of criticism against Hardik Pandya after his team Mumbai Indians, which he captained, finished at the bottom. Impressed by Pandya’s skillful return, former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar couldn’t hold back from applauding him.

"When you are playing for India it's huge. It's humongous. The way he was running in, what was impressive was that he bowled his four over on the trot. Not that he bowled two overs and took a break. That is a test that also had to be run. He has also come through that test very, very impressively," Gavaskar said on Star Sports.

Pandya had replaced Rohit Sharma as the skipper at the Mumbai Indian after being traded from Gujarat Titans in a high-profile deal. Pandya failed to live up to the expectations and also drew a lot of opprorium from the MI fans. He remained under the scanner throughout the tournament.
