“Due to lack of communication”: Shreyas Iyer on the journey after ODI World Cup 2023

Indian batter Shreyas Iyer, high on recent success, having led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to an impressive title victory in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, has opened on the troubling period that preceded his IPL accomplishment. Iyer said lack of communication and decisions didn’t go in his favour post ODI World Cup 2023.
Iyer had a prodigious ODI World Cup, finishing as the third highest run-getter for India. Shockingly, Shreyas Iyer, along with Ishan Kishan, was a big name to miss out on India’s central contract. BCCI, later on, made it mandatory for players to play domestic cricket in order to play for national team. Shreyas Iyer, however had played the semi-final and the final of the Ranji Trophy for Mumbai ahead of the IPL 2024.
"I had a tremendous World Cup and I wanted to take a break after that and wanted to work on my body and build some strength around certain area. Due to lack of communication, there were some decisions, that didn't go in my favour," Shreyas Iyer said on his YouTube channel.
"But I realised that the bat is going to be in my hand and it's on me to perform and win trophies. I decided that once I win Ranji Trophy and IPL that would be an apt answer for whatever happened in the past and thankfully everything fell to right place. I am grateful, how it happened."
Earlier, this year India played a five-match Test series against England and Iyer was part of the first two games but due to lack of scoring he was left out of the remaining three games. Notably, Iyer has had a series of back inuries which has been a big crisis for him over the past few years.
