Shakib hits his straps as Bangladesh inch closer to Super 8s

Bangladesh inched closer to the Super Eight stage of the ongoing T20I World Cup after they delivered a collective performance to record a 25-run win over the Netherlands on Thursday at Arnos Vale Ground in Kingstown, St Vincent. The star of the show was Shakib Al Hasan, alongside the Bangladesh bowlers, who played pivotal roles in securing the win.
Shakib Al Hasan’s return to form at the right time pumped Bangladesh with runs as he helped the team set a target of 160 runs after being inserted to bat. Shakib clouted a crucial knock of 64 unbeaten off 46 to propel the side to a massive total. Opener Tanzid Hasan’s 35 off 26 at the top of the order gave a huge push to the team’s score.
Defending the total, Bangladesh's bowling unit effectively dismantled the Netherlands' batting lineup, restricting them to a mere 134/8 in their 20 overs. Rishad Hossain and Taskin Ahmed took three and two wickets respectively. Mahmudullah, Mustafizur Rahman and Tanzim Hasan Sakib claimed one wicket each.
For Netherlands, Sybrand Engelbrecht and Vikramjit Singh were the top-scorers, scoring 33 and 26 respectively but their efforts were not enough in front of Bangladesh’s disciplined bowling attack. With the positive result in the game, Sri Lanka’s prospects for next stage of the tournament have been ravaged.
