TNPL 2024: Lyca Kovai Kings battle it out against Chepauk Super Gillies in the opener

The eighth season of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL 2024) will be kicked off with the opening match between defending champions Lyca Kovai Kings and Chepauk Super Gillies on Friday at SCF Cricket Ground, Salem. Lyca Kovai Kings won the seventh edition of the tournament after recording their victory against Nellai Royal Kings in the final. 

Batting first, Lyca Kovai Kings had posted a total of 205/5 in 20 overs and they bowled out Nellai Royal Kings for 101/10 in 15 overs. Going into the new edition of tournament, Lyca Kovai Kings would look to continue with their momentum in order to have a strong start. 

Chepauk Super Gillies, on the other hand, had the sobering campaign last season, winning only three games and losing four out of their seven encounters. They sat on fifth position as they ended their campaign on a dull note. Super Gillies would hope to revive their campaign going into the new season and would want to create early pressure on opposition teams. 

A total of 32 matches will be played throughout the tournament with eight teams scheduled to face one another in a round-robin format. The four teams at the end of group stage matches will qualify for the playoffs. The playoff stage will have Qualifier 1, Qualifier 2, Eliminator and the final.
