India set to face Zimbabwe in first T20I assignment post Rohit-Kohli era

India are poised to take on Zimbabwe in their first T20I assignment following the retirement of veteran stars Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Both Rohit and Kohli, cornerstones of India’s T20 team, retired from T20 International after the T20I World Cup where India emerged triumphant. This marks the end of an era and the beginning of a new chapter for Indian team, as young talent eyes major spots.

Their retirements leave a significant void in the team, both in terms of experience and leadership. Rohit and Kohli’s departure signals a transition phase for the Indian T20I squad, necessitating fresh faces to step up and fill their shoes.

In their series against Zimbabwe, Shubman Gill is set to lead the team. Gill, who has opened the batting alongside Rohit Sharma time and again, boast immense experience. There will be spots which players will be eying to grab. Abhishek Sharma and Ruturaj Gaikwad will be eying opening slots, while Rinku Singh and Riyan Parag will look at middle-order slots to grab them.

India’s T20I future looks bright, with a mix of experienced players and promising talent ready to roar. The series against Zimbabwe will be the first test of this new era. Ahead of the game, Gill also revealed the opening combination. The first T20I will be played on Saturday at Harare Sports Club, Harare.

“Abhishek Sharma will open with me and Ruturaj Gaikwad will bat at No.3,” Gill said during the post-match press conference.
