Gavaksra slams those questioning Suryakumar Yadav’s catch

In the recently concluded T20I World Cup final between India and South Africa, Indian player Suryakumar Yadav took an impressive catch near the boundary to dismiss David Miller, thereby helping India win the T20I World Cup title after 17 years. South Africa had needed 16 off the final over to win the battle and David Miller was the last man standing, but Yadav’s blinder sent Miller packing to put India on top.

Yadav’s agility and awareness was lauded as his skills helped India outplay South Africa. However, in the aftermath of that impressive piece of fielding by Yadav, there have been doubts, suggesting that Suryakumar may have touched the boundary ropes while completing the catch. Many videos circulating on social media are claiming that Yadav touched the boundary ropes. Alarmed by the doubts, former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar slammed an Australian paper that questioned the legitimacy of the catch and lauded Suryakumar Yadav for his extraordinary skills.

"There was also a question raised in an Australian paper about the fairness of the catch that Suryakumar Yadav took to dismiss David Miller in the final. All the replays were quite clear that SKY had done a marvellous balancing act as he took the catch and flicked the ball up in the air before he crossed the boundary rope and then jumped in the air and caught the ball within the boundary to complete a fabulous catch," Gavaskar wrote in his column for Sportstar.

"Nobody questioned the catch, but the writer of the article did. He may be interested to see the video floating around of the 10 most blatant cheating acts done by the Aussies before trying to point a finger at SKY. Pot calling the kettle black indeed," Gavaskar added.
