Rohit Sharma is set to lead India in the Tests and ODIs, announced BCCI secretary Jay Shah on Sunday. Jay Shah confirmed Rohit Sharma will continue to lead India in the World Test Championship and Champions Trophy while exuding confidence that India will continue to win major world titles. A few days back, India lifted the T20I World Cup 2024 after beating South Africa in the final in Barbados.

Ahead of the T20I World Cup 2024, Jay Shah had asserted that India would win the T20I World Cup title under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy and India did. At the end of the T20I World Cup 2024, Rohit Sharma had bowed out of T20 international and said he will continue to play Test and ODIs. Even, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja had called it quits from T20Is immediately after India’s title win at the T20I World Cup.

Congratulating team India on their victory, Jay Shah recalled expressing his confidence in India’s ability to lift the T20I World Cup title. Shah dedicated India’s T20I World Cup title win to the retiring trio and head coach Rahul Dravid.

“I congratulate Team India for this historic win. I want to dedicate this win to coach Rahul Dravid, captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja,” Shah said on Sunday in a video message.

"On November 23, after winning 10 matches, we won hearts, but we were not able to win the Cup. I said in Rajkot that on June 29 that we will win hearts, win the Cup and hoist the flag in Barbados. And our captain hoisted it there.”

"After this win, the upcoming ICC events -- WTC final and the Champions Trophy, I am fully confident that our team, under Rohit Sharma's captaincy, will become champions," he said.
