An inspired batting performance from Jaffna Kings has seen them lift the Lanka Premier League 2024 title. The eye-catching batting attack led by Kusal Mendis and Rillee Rossouw fired Jaffna Kings to a nine-wicket victory over Galle Marvels in the final on Sunday at R.Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. The quickfire knocks from both the batters demolished Marvels’ bowling attack.

Galle Marvels. having been asked to bat first, put up a competitive total of 184 for 6 in their 20 overs with Tim Seifert and Bhanuka Rajapaksa banging (47) and (82) respectively. There was no help from their openers Alex Hales and Niroshan Dickwella losing their wickets for (6) and (5) respectively.

Their crumbling innings was anchored by Tim Seifert and Bhanuka Rajapaksa who both performed at the the right time to make sure team had a respectable total. Despite losing early wickets, Marvels managed to post a challenging total thanks to some fireworks from Seifert and Rajapaksa.

Jaffna Kings, chasing the total, lost their opener Pathum Nissanka for (0) but Kusal Mendis and Rilee Roosouw took control of the innings, forging an unbroken 185-run partnership to take the team over the line. Kusal Mendis scored (72) runs unbeaten while Rilee Rossouw blasted (106) runs unbeaten, becoming the first player ever to fire two hundreds in the same season of tournament.
