Jasprit Bumrah speaks on Hardik Pandya’s IPL captaincy

Indian allrounder Hardik Pandya faced a particularly challenging period during the Indian Premier League 2024 season where his team Mumbai Indians, which he captained, ended up at the bottom of the points table. Pandya, ahead of the IPL, had replaced Rohit Sharma as the skipper at Mumbai Indians, a leadership transition that didn’t settle well with MI fans, who booed Hardik Pandya whenever he came out onto the field.

Hardik had found himself in a situation where neither his personal form nor his team's fortunes were favourable. Opening up about that challenging phase, MI fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah said that Pandya had the team’s support.

“Sometimes we understand, we live in a country where emotion is the talking point. We understand fans get emotional. Players are emotional. It does affect that you are an Indian player, but your own fans are not speaking well. But you have to take it on your chin. How can you stop people? If you focus on yourself, you shut that door. It’s not that simple. They are screaming. You can hear it. But then your inner circle helps,” Bumrah said on the Indian Express Adda.

However, Hardik Pandya managed to make up for the lacklustre performances at the IPL by delivering strong performances at the T20I World Cup 2024. Hardik Pandya was one of the major players that played a crucial role in India’s title victory at the T20I World Cup 2024.
