Williamson's move is particularly noteworthy as he recently declined New Zealand's central contract, signalling a shift in his focus towards franchise cricket. Chris Woakes, a key figure for England, is also venturing into the SA20, adding his talents to the Durban Super Giants. Their inclusion is expected to significantly bolster the team's chances for victory.

During the 2024 edition of SA20, Durban Super Giants had made it to the final, but lost to Markham-led SunRisers Eastern Cape.
