"One of the best who have ever played": Former Indian head coach's massive words for Rohit

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma is one of the most celebrated cricketers in the world of cricket, having established himself as a prominent figure and a powerhouse top-order batter. As a captain, his knack to judge the situation and act accordingly has earned him tremendous praises. Recently, he guided India to the T20I World Cup 2024 title victory, playing a major role both as a batter and a leader.
Weighing in on Rohit’s leadership acumen, former Indian cricketer Ravi Shastri described Rohit as one of the all-time greats and put his captaincy in level with legendary MS Dhoni. Rohit Sharma is the most successful T20I captain with 49 wins out of 62 games, as record which is greater than that of MS Dhoni who during his tenure as skipper led the team to 41 wins in 72 matches.
"As a tactician, let's not forget that he's been an outstanding guy. He'll go down as one of the best captains ever alongside Dhoni. If you ask me who's better, I'd say both are on par when it comes to tactics in the white-ball game. I can't pay a bigger compliment to Rohit than that because you know what MS has done and the titles he has won,” Shastri said on The ICC Review.
India’s title victory at the T20I World Cup 2024 was their first since 2007, and India clinched the title without losing any game throughout the tournament.
"Rohit is not far behind, and I thought tactically he was just outstanding in this year's (T20) World Cup. Just the calmness, the ability to get a (Jasprit) Bumrah or a (Hardik) Pandya, or even an Axar Patel at just the right time when needed was great to see."
Shastri lauded Rohit’s hitting abilities and underlined the reasons as to what sets him apart from others. Notably. Rohit Sharma retired from T20 international at the end of T20I World Cup 2024.
“I think a giant in the white-ball game. One of the all-time greats. One of the best who have ever played. Will walk into any white-ball team they pick, irrespective of the era. Just because of the dynamic ability he has at the top."
"Compared to Virat Kohli, you know, Virat Kohli is more finesse, he starts along the ground. This man is explosive. He's got the power to clear any ground in the world and take on the fast bowlers. He's got the shots for the quicks, and he can destroy spin as well."
