Chamari Athapaththu pens three-year deal with Sydney Thunder

Sri Lankan Women team’s skipper Chamari Athapaththu, one of the most prominent figures in women’s cricket, has signed a three-season deal with Sydney Thunder in the WBBL. This landmark signing will further boost Sydney Thunder in their batting and bowling departments. This is a huge deal for Thunder for next three seasons. Chamari, having played in the last season for Thunder as an undrafted player, capped off the season with a Player of the Tournament performance, firing 552 runs and claiming nine wickets.
"Committing to Sydney Thunder for the next three seasons was an easy decision because I believe in the vision of this club, and I want to be part of its future success," Athapaththu said.
"There's so much to love about my Sydney Thunder family. My team-mates are not just colleagues; they are friends who push each other to be better every day, [which] is important to me.”
“It's been an incredible journey so far, and I'm so excited for what's ahead."
Chamari Athapaththu has been signed under the league’s new multi-year contract where each club is permitted to sign one overseas player for up to three years outside of the WBBL draft.
