Australian star Steve Smith, who has penned a three-year deal with Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash League (BBL), is eyeing a return to white-ball cricket with renewed vigour. In addition to his cricket ambitions, Steve Smith has set his sights on a remarkable goal for 2028, representing Australia in the Olympics in Los Angeles in 2028. Smith is aiming to make his way back into Australia’s T20I set up after bring recently omitted from Australia’s T20I World Cup squad.

"I could still be playing T20 cricket in four years, so you never know. It's a format I can see myself playing probably for a lot longer than some of the others, especially with the franchise stuff around the world. I've signed on here for three years so it's only another year after that. It would be cool to be part of an Olympics,” Steve Smith said.

After being named in Australia’s squad for ODIs against England, Smith will be making his comeback to Australian team. However, he has been left out of T20I squad. The white-ball series against England next month will be very pivotal for Smith to force his way into Australian line-up. Smith recently played for Washington Freedom at the Major League Cricket, where he ended the tournament with 336 runs.

Meanwhile, the bigger challenge for Australia remains the Border-Gavaskar-Trophy against India. Australia are looking to retain the BGT trophy for the first time in 10 years. It’s been incredibly challenging for Australia to overcome India in past years.

"You can't really hide in a five-Test series like you probably can in a two-match series for instance. If someone gets the wood on you, it can be hard coming back from that. It's going to be a wonderful series,” Smith said.

“As I said before, we are probably the two best teams at the moment in Test cricket. We played the World Test Championship final last year and beat them there. They've been great out here the last couple of times, they've played really good cricket, hopefully we can turn the tables. It's been ten years since we last won the Border-Gavaskar trophy so need to do that this year."
