The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reviewing two critical aspects of the game - the two bouncers per over rule, introduced in the Indian domestic cricket and in IPL, and the recently introduced ‘Impact Player’ rule. The two bouncers per over rule was introduced in the domestic cricket Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy last year and was subsequently introduced in the cash-rich league Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season.

The rule that allows bowlers to deliver a maximum of two bouncers per over has thrown divided opinions.  According to Cricbuzz, The rule is now under review, with BCCI pondering over its use.

"We understand that Impact Player and two bouncer rules are the key points and no decision has been taken," an official of a state unit told Cricbuzz.

There has been no word from BCCI yet as to why the bouncer rule is being reviewed. Moreover, BCCI is yet to share playing conditions for the SMAT. While the two bouncers rule has been received well, but ‘Impact Player’ rule has seen dissenting opinions. Impact Player rule can be used to bolster the batting order, strengthen the bowling attack, or bring in a specialist for a specific match situation.
