SA20 2024: Schedule announced, Sunrisers Eastern Cape face MI Cape Town in the opener

The much-anticipated schedule for the third season of the SA20 tournament was unveiled on Monday, setting the stage for an exciting season. The league will kick off with the defending champions, Sunrisers Eastern Cape, taking centre stage in the opening match. Sunrisers Eastern Cape will clash with MI Cape Town in the tournament opener at St George’s Park on January 9. 

The tournament will be played in same format as it has in last two seasons. A total of 34 games will be played in tournament with each team playing every other team home and away ahead of the playoffs. The final will be held on February 8 at Wanderers. This year SA20 will see the availability of star players such as Joe Root, Dinesh Karthik and Ben Stokes. New Zealand star Kane Williamson will also turn up for his maiden appearance in the tournament. 

"We're thrilled to start the season in Gqeberha with our defending champions and look forward to an action-packed summer of cricket. As we welcome international talent to the roaring pool of local stars, we aim to deliver an unforgettable experience for both players and fans alike," Graeme Smith, SA20 league commissioner said in a statement. 

Sunrisers Eastern Cape, who have been victorious in the last two editions of the tournament, are the most successful side so far in the league.
