Rangana Herath and Vikram Rathour have joined the New Zealand Test squad for their upcoming assignments in Asia over the next few weeks as Black Caps are set to play six Tests during that period. Herath will be coaching New Zealand for their games against Afghanistan (One-Off Test) and Sri Lanka (Two Tests). While, Rathour will be with New Zealand only for the One-Off Test match against Afghanistan in Greater Noida. The One-Off Test between both teams will start on September 9.

"Both men are held in high regard in the world of cricket and I know our players are really looking forward to the opportunity to learn from them," New Zealand coach Gary Stead said.

"For our three left-arm orthodox spinners in particular, Ajaz (Patel), Mitch (Santner) and Rachin (Ravindra), having the chance to work with Rangana across three Tests on the subcontinent will be hugely beneficial.

"Rangana has taken over 100 Test wickets in Galle which is the venue of our two Tests against Sri Lanka and so his knowledge of that venue will be priceless."

Rangana Herath, who is a former Sri Lankan spinner, took (433) Test wickets during his playing days, whereas Vikram Rathour is a former Indian batting coach. Rathour was in Rahul Dravid’s coaching staff during his tenure as Indian head coach.
