Adam Gilchrist shares his views on Kohli-Root comparison
Two of cricket’s masterclass batters Joe Root and Virat Kohli’s greatness with the bat is widely known, having made a bigger impact in the game. Of late, Joe Root has been in outstanding form, making his mark in the ongoing Test series against Sri Lanka. Joe Root’s remarkable innings in the second Test against Sri Lanka led England’s fightback and handed them 190-run victory a few days back.
Root remained firm in his assault, smoking (143) and (103) in both first and second innings respectively. Joe Root’s excellent form has touched off reactions from cricket pundits, comparing him with Indian star Virat Kohli. Over the past many years, both Root and Kohli have done really well in the longest format of the game. Meanwhile, Australian great Adam Gilchrist gave his verdict on the comparison between Kohli and Root.
"In the last short while. Over a long period, Joe Root's stats are..well he is the best England ever had. Virat scored one of the best tons I've seen at the Perth stadium in the first Test match ever played there, that was probably different gravy. I'd probably say Virat," Gichrist said on Club Prairie Fire podcast.
Former England player Michael Vaughan also shared his views by saying that Kohli is better than Root in Australia, but Root is better than Kohli, ‘anywhere else’.
"I wouldn't argue with that in Australia. I would say Virat in Australia against the Aussies, anywhere else I'm going Joe Root," Vaughan said.
