“He will always be in the shadows of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli”: Former Indian cricketer on KL Rahul
Indian wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul has found a place in India’s squad for the first Test against Bangladesh and he is also eying a roaring comeback, having remained on the sidelines for long in the red-ball format. KL Rahul hasn’t played Test cricket since January earlier this year after being ruled out of the England Tests.
KL Rahul played first of the five Test matches against England, but failed to participate in the remaining four games due to an injury. In place of KL Rahul, India called up Sarfaraz khan, who looked up to the task, starting his innings with a half-century.
As India’s Test series against Bangladesh draws closure, there is intense curiosity as to who between KL Rahul and Sarfaraz Khan will make it to the XI since both of them are in India’s first squad. Meanwhile, former Indian cricket Akash Chopra believes that KL Rahul will continue to play cricket as long as he scores runs.
"I personally like KL Rahul as a player. He will have to score runs. If he keeps scoring runs, he will keep moving forward. His fate is that he will always be in the shadows of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. These are the big guys. I feel Rahul is super talented, super skilled. He will keep playing until he keeps scoring runs. Although the team rates him very high, an atmosphere gets created against him very quickly in Indian cricket," Chopra said in a video posted on his YouTube channel.
"There are plenty of people who go after him. So he won't get as long a rope as you would give to anyone else with the same caliber or pedigree. If it's up to me, I would definitely give it because he has scored a lot of runs and difficult runs," he added.
