Usman Khawaja’s high praise for R Ashwin, calls him a ‘strategic player’
Australian opener Usman Khawaja has lauded veteran Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, calling him a strategic player. India are scheduled to play Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which includes five Test matches, beginning in November of 2024. It is going to be a hugely competitive series between both teams, with Australia eyeing their first victory over India in almost 10 years. On the other hand, India are eying their third consecutive victory on Australian soil.
India have maintained their winning streak over Australia in the last four editions of the Trophy, including the 2018-19 and 2020-21 seasons in Australia.
"Ravi is a very good bowler. He is very strategic, he always has a plan. He always tries to figure it out. He is trying to get ahead of the game, one step ahead of the game, which I respect. I respect his cricketing brain. So, it's always cool to play against, yeah I look forward to the challenge," Khawaja told Star Sports.
Ravichandran Ashwin has enjoyed a productive Test career so far, having claimed 516 wickets from 100 games. Moreover, R Ashwin carries a supreme record against Australia with 114 wickets in 22 games. The first Test match between India and Australia will begin on November 22.
