Former Indian cricketer speaks on Gambhir-Rohit rapport

Team India will begin their two-match Test series against Bangladesh under the leadership of new head coach Gautam Gambhir as this will be his first assignment with team India in the longest format of the game. Gambhir succeeded Rahul Dravid whose term came to an end at the end of T20I World Cup 2024 in June.

After guiding India to the T20I World Cup title win, Rahul Dravid decided against renewing his contract, clearing the way for Gautam Gambhir to take the reins. As the series begins, the spotlight will be on the bonhomie between Gautam Gambhir and Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma enjoyed a great rapport with Rahul Dravid and both of them brought new approach into the team that saw India produce thriving results. Giving his take, former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar believed that team selection would give the clear idea if both were having the same thinking.

"It was very clear that Rohit and Rahul clicked together. When Virat and Ravi were there, some of the decisions, especially while picking the playing XI gave you an idea of how much influence the coach had on the captain. I think you will start getting an idea about their dynamics with the selections that they make, not so much the results," Manjrekar said on ESPNCricinfo.

Manjrekar also felt that Gambhir has the knack to read the game very well and take bold calls.

"I have known Gambhir for the last 4 years. He is someone that reads the game very well and is someone who can be clinical with Indian cricket and not too emotional. I have always believed that the coach is as good as the team. Indian cricket is in a great state, and hope that continues. What we see of Gambhir is a persona on TV and I think when he is in the dressing room he will change his approach a little bit," he said.
