Bringing an end to a distinguished career, Bangladesh stalwart and allrounder Shakib Al Hasan has announced his retirement from T20Is. Addressing the press conference ahead of Bangladesh's second Test against India, Shakib said that he has already played his last T20I, which was at the T20I World Cup 2024, and also expressed his desire to retire from Test cricket at the end of the two-match home Test series against South Africa next month.

If Shakib is selected for the Mirpur Test, then that will be his last, otherwise Bangladesh’s second Test match against India, scheduled to begin on Friday (September 27) in Kanpur, will be his last.

Shakib Al Hasan has been a consistent performer for Bangladesh in T20Is, having also played the T20I World Cup inaugural edition in 2007. He is regarded as one of the most dangerous allrounders with the incredible form and consistency he has shown over the past many years. Having featured in 129 T20Is for Bangladesh, Shakib has scored 2,551 runs and taken 149 wickets. As of now, Shakib has featured in 70 Test matches for Bangladesh, amassing 4,600 runs and claiming 242 wickets.
