“Full freedom to…”: Rinku Singh on Gambhir’s message
The monster innings by Nitish Kumar Reddy and Rinku Singh bludgeoned India to an 86-run victory over Bangladesh in the second T20I on Wednesday at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. After India’s top-order batters in the form of Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav failed to give the team an exciting start, Nitish Reddy and Rinku Singh stepped up, forming a massive 108-run partnership to set the tone for team’s victory.
Reddy smacked 74 off 34 while Rinku Singh hammered 53 off 29. Nitish and Rinku’s knocks also helped India post a formidable target of 221. Speaking after the match, Rinku Singh highlighted the shift in momentum during the match.
“When the match started the ball was gripping a bit. Sanju bhai and Surya bhai got out to the balls, which gripped in the surface. When I came out to bat Reddy bhai told me that the ball was gripping so I batted accordingly at the start. The wicket improved a lot later. We were talking to build a partnership and smash the poor deliveries. The momentum shifted when Nitish Reddy got that free hit.”
Rinku Singh also revealed the message from both coach Gautam Gambhir and skipper Suryakumar Yadav.
"Both the coach and the captain have always told me to play my natural game, regardless of the the situation in the match . They’ve given us full freedom to back our shots and hit every ball,” said Rinku.
