Former Indian skipper MS Dhoni has expressed a desire to savour the remaining years of his playing career. However, there remains uncertainty over his availability for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League. Dhoni, who has been with Chennai Super Kings for long, has not yet confirmed his participation for the new season. However, he has said that he wants to enjoy the game as long as he plays.

"I just want to enjoy whatever last few years of cricket I'm able to play. Like how during our childhood we used to go out and play at 4pm, just enjoying the game. But when you play professional sport it becomes difficult to enjoy the game just like a game. So that’s what I want to do is, there are emotions and commitments, but I want to enjoy the game for the next few years,” Dhoni said at a promotional event in Goa.

October 31 is the deadline for all the franchises to submit the list of all the retained players. Meanwhile, there were already reports doing the rounds in the last edition about Dhoni’s future in the IPL after he decided to hand over the captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad ahead of IPL 2024. But, Dhoni has maintained silence over his IPL future.

Now, with the reintroduction of an old rule for the retired international players, MS Dhoni is now eligible to be retained as an uncapped player for the IPL 2025. According to the new rule, players, who have been retired from international cricket for five years, will now be considered as uncapped. While, there is still uncertainty over Dhoni’s future in IPL, Chennai Super Kings CEO Kasi Viswanathan has expressed positivity saying that Dhoni will return for IPL 2025.
