Gary Kirsten steps down as Pakistan’s white-ball coach

Former South African cricketer Gary Kirsten has stepped down as Pakistan’s head coach of the ODI and T20I teams with immediate effect. It comes as a huge surprise after Pakistan appointed him on a two-year contract in April 2024.
Gary Kirten’s resignation as Pakistan’s head coach comes in less than six months. In the absence of him, current Test head coach Jason Gillespie has been named as Pakistan’s coach for the upcoming white-ball series against Australia, which gets underway on November 4 in Melbourne.
“The Pakistan Cricket Board today announced Jason Gillespie will coach the Pakistan men’s cricket team on next month’s white-ball tour of Australia after Gary Kirsten submitted his resignation, which was accepted,” the PCB stated on X (formerly twitter).
Kristen’s first assignment with Pakistan was the bilateral T20I series against England, which they lost. Later, at the T20I World Cup 2024 in USA, Pakistan were eliminated from the tournament during the group stage itself after suffering defeats against USA and India. Early elimination at the T20I World Cup led to an unforgettable start to Kristen's tenure as head coach.
