Aaqib Javed named Pakistan’s interim white-ball coach
Former Pakistan cricketer Aaqib Javed has been appointed as Pakistan's interim white-ball coach until the conclusion of the 2025 Champions Trophy, which will be held in Pakistan. Javed will also continue to serve as a senior member of the Pakistan men’s selection committee.
Javed will take charge of Pakistan's limited-overs setup following the departure of the Gary Kirsten. For the time being, the post was filled by Pakistan’s red-ball coach Jason Gillespie. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) also stated on Monday that it will begin the process of appointing a permanent white-ball head coach by the end of the Champions Trophy, which is set to run from 19 February to 9 March.
Under Gillespie, Pakistan clinched a series win against Australia in the three-match ODI series. The immediate assignment for Javed will be to oversee the three-match ODI and T20I series against Zimbabwe. Later, they will host New Zealand and South Africa for an ODI triangular series, which will be played from February 8 to 14. The triangular series comes days ahead of thr Champions Trophy.
