“He's a superstar”: Former Australian star’s enormous praise for Kohli in the build-up to BGT
Former Australian cricketer Ricky Ponting has highlighted the qualities of Indian star Virat Kohli that have earned him immense respect in Australia. Ponting highlighted Kohli's exceptional talent and ability to perform under pressure as key attributes, making him a standout player. As the highly anticipated Test series between India and Australia approaches, Australia are trying to reclaim the Border-Gavaskar Trophy for the first time since 2014-15.
Kohli is expected to play a pivotal role in India's challenge for supremacy. Additionally, he will have a responsibility to lead the charge, with Rohit Sharma reportedly set to miss the first Test.
“Kohli is a star,” Ponting said while speaking on the ICC Review.
“He's a superstar, has been a superstar of the game for so long. He's passionate about the way that he plays. He’s passionate about his team. He wants to win and he plays with his heart on his sleeve.”
Ponting also shed light on India’s previous victories in Australia under the leadership of Virat Kohli. His previous success in Australia, including crucial centuries, has made him one of the most feared and respected opponents in the game.
“I had a look at what Ravi (Shastri) had to say about being the man that wanted to take all the bullets in Australia last time."
“And that’s what you expect from your leaders and your star players.”
“When you travel abroad, and you know that the country’s against you, and you know the home media’s against you, you need to have your senior players stand up and be the protectors, if you like, of the younger players in that side.”
