“One of the best in the world”: Pat Cummins’ massive praise for Bumrah after Australia’s defeat
The ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy between Australia and India has captured the attention as the first Test match has already produced a dramatic shift in momentum, largely thanks to the blistering performance of Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah. He claimed eight wickets in the match, including a remarkable five-wicket haul in Australia's first innings.
It came as an unexpected start to the high-profile series as India downed Australia by 295 runs. After the defeat, Australian skipper Pat Cummins openly acknowledged the significant challenge posed by Bumrah, whose exceptional bowling was pivotal in India’s resounding 295-run victory.
“I thought he bowled really well. He's one of the best in the world. He's always going to be a challenge, so we got to come up with ways to combat that," Cummins said during the press conference.
“I thought particularly that Day 1, his spell, the spell from the Indian guys, made it tricky for our team to navigate through. He bowled well throughout the game, like he does most games.”
Pat Cummins also touched upon Australia’s defeat but didn’t underline the reasons behind it. Looking at match, India had bowled out Australia for 150 in their first innings and later when Australia were in chase of 534, Indian bowlers restricted the side to 238.
“I think there were a fair few things 150 placed us quite well. Obviously, the game sped up that night on Day 1, they bowled terrifically well and put a dent into us.”
“Once the pitch started to slow down a little a bit, obviously we weren't well placed back out on the field and couldn't get the breakthroughs. I thought they played really well. Just not much went our way this game," Cummins said.
