Gambhir to fly back home due to personal reasons
In a latest development following India’s historic 295-run victory in the first against Australia, Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir is set to fly back to India due to personal reasons. However, Gambhir will join the squad ahead of the second Test in adelaide. According to a report in the Indian Express, Indian head coach Gambhir informed BCCI that he will leave for India and come back ahead of the second Test and BCCI has approved Gambhir’s request.
“Gambhir has informed us that he will be travelling back home and will join the team before the start of the second Test. He has cited personal reasons and the BCCI has accepted his request,” the report quoted a source as saying.
Firstly, ahead of the second Test, team India will travel to Canberra on Wednesday to play a two-day pink-ball tour game, slated to get underway on Saturday. Gambhir won’t be part of the squad but, according to the report, Gambhir’s support staff, which includes bowling coach, Morne Morkel, assistant coaches Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate and the fielding coach, T Dilip, will oversee the team’s training sessions. Meanwhile, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has joined Indian squad after missing the first Test due to the birth of his second child.
