Mike Hussey recalls advising Bumrah in his maiden IPL season
Former Australian cricketer Mike Hussey recently recalled an important conversation he had with Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah during the 2014 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Jasprit Bumrah, one of the most promising fast bowlers, made a great impact during the IPL 2014 with his sharp and searing pace.
Playing for the Mumbai Indians, Bumrah had already begun to make a name for himself with his sharp yorkers and ability to bowl in the death overs. Mike Hussey noticed an interesting aspect of Bumrah's approach during a match for the Mumbai Indians. Hussey recalled giving Bumrah a piece of advice after he saw Bumrah giving an intense send-off to Ab de Villiers after dismissing him.
“He burst onto the scene in the IPL. I remember having one stern word with him, though. In one of his early games, he got AB de Villiers out, obviously a great of the game and gave him a big send-off and AB wasn’t too happy about it. He sort of stared him down," Hussey said on the "Willow Talk" podcast.
"I remember just pulling Bumrah aside and saying, ‘mate, you don’t need to do that," Hussey said while speaking on The Willow Talk Podcast. "You have got that much skill that much talent, getting the wicket is enough. That’s the biggest sledge you can give, you don’t need to give send-offs if you want to have respect in the game and get respected by your peers then maybe just don’t give send-offs," Hussey added.
Meanwhile, Bumrah has been the star performer in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, leading a strong bowling attack. He was the force behind India's tremendous victory and also played key role in the following games.
