"The only thing that can keep you in the dressing room is the performance": Gautam Gambhir
Following India's devastating defeat in the fourth test match against Australia in Melbourne, team India has come under heavy criticism as they are on the cusp of losing the BGT for the first time in many years. In the fourth Test in Melbourne, Australia beat India by 184 runs to go 2-1 up in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. India's extraordinary failure has been the talk of the town, with senior players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli not remaining up to the task and registering shocking figures.
Ahead of the must-win fifth and final Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Sydney, Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir talked about the transition in the team. Meanwhile, there have been questions raised on the appaling performances of veterans Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, who both are yet to make any significant impact in the series.
“See, I will tell you one thing. I think Indian cricket will always be in safe hands till the time you've got honest people are sitting in the dressing room. Honesty is the most important thing for any transition. It’s not about phasing out senior players or getting the youngsters in. Ultimately, the only thing that can keep you in the dressing room is the performance,” Gautam Gambhir during the press conference.
Gambhir also stressed on the team first ideology ahead of the fifth Test.
"There is only one tendency and there is only one discussion - it's the team first and the team first ideology that matters. It's a team sport and you got to play what the team needs. People can play their natural game but in a team sport you need to play in a certain way," Gambhir said.
