AUS vs IND 5th Test Day 2 Stumps: The battle remains competitive as Pant plays blazing knock

India took a 145-run lead over Australia in the ongoing fifth and final Test match at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Saturday. Despite carrying a massive advantage, India's batting woes continue, as they lost six wickets in their second innings on Day 2 at stumps.

India started their second innings with confidence after an impressive bowling performance earlier in the day. The Indian bowling attack, led by pacers Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna, wreaked havoc on Australia's batting line-up, dismissing them for just 181 runs. The bowlers were on top from the outset, with Bumrah and Prasidh Krishna picking up key wickets. India's disciplined attack left Australia struggling to find runs and build partnerships.

However, India's batting came under pressure once again as they began their second innings. The top-order collapsed cheaply, with the likes of Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul unable to make significant contributions. Their failure left India under huge pressure, with the top order yet again failing to deliver on a crucial day.

In the face of a collapsing middle-order, Rishabh Pant took charge and played a crucial knock of 61 off 33 to stabilize the innings. His knock featured some breathtaking shots, helping India reach a total of 141 runs, thereby extending their lead.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli's struggles continued. He has had a tough time finding his rhythm in the series, and his inconsistency was evident again as he was dismissed for just 6 runs. As the day closed, India found themselves with a slim lead but a vulnerable position. With six wickets down and the remaining batters facing a challenging task, India will need to rely on their lower order to extend the lead.
