Najumul Hossain Shanto quits as Bangladesh's T20I skipper
Najmul Hossain Shanto has announced his decision to step down from his role as the captain of Bangladesh men's T20I team. Meanwhile, Shanto is expected to continue to lead the team in both the ODI and Test formats. According to a report in Cricbuzz, Shanto informed the BCB of his decision to relinquish the T20I captaincy and the board accepted it.
Earlier, Shanto was not eager to lead the side following the home series against South Africa. Moreover, he had shown his unwillingness to lead the side in all three formats but BCB president Faruque Ahmed convinced Shanto to continue with the captaincy across all formats.
"Shanto finally told us that he won't lead in the T20Is and we accepted it but as we don't have T20Is at the moment, we have time in hand and so we are not picking a new captain. If there is no injury issue Najmul will remain the captain in Test and ODIs and we have discussed it," A BCB official said as per the report.
Amidst all this, Litton Das is expected to take up the T20I reins after recently leading the side to a 3-0 victory against West Indies. Shanto, on the other hand, is likely to lead the side at the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Bangladesh are in Group A alongside India, Pakistan and New Zealand. They are set to kickoff their campaign on February 20 by taking on India in Dubai.
