Sourav Ganguly left surprised over Kohli’s recent struggle against Australia
Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly has heaped praise on Indian star Virat Kohli, calling him a “once-in-a-lifetime” player. Ganguly levelled Kohli as the greatest white-ball player, highlighting his achievements in the format. But, he also expressed surprise over Kohli’s repeated failure in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia.
Kohli didn’t make any significant impact during the five-match Test series against Australia recently, registering the depressing figures of 190 runs from five Test matches. Barring one ton during the Perth Test, Kohli couldn’t live up to the expectations in other matches, struggling to maintain his typically sizzling form in Australia.
"I think Virat Kohli is a once-in-a-lifetime player for men's cricket. To score 80 international hundreds in a career is something unbelievable. For me, he is probably the greatest white ball player the world has seen," Sourav Ganguly said during a Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) event.
“But I was really surprised by the way he batted after getting a hundred in Perth. He struggled before that year but I thought after the hundred in Perth, it will be a big series for him. But I think it happens. Every player has his weakness and strength. There is no player in the world who will not have that. It's how you adapt to your weaknesses as you play great bowlers over a period of time,” he said.
Kohli will now be seen in action in Ranji Trophy, representing Delhi against Railways. He has also been added to India's squad for the upcoming Champions Trophy. Ahead of the Champions Trophy, Kohli will also play a three-match home ODI series against England.
