“They see it as a sign of weakness”: former Pakistan player warns country players ahead of India clash
Ahead of the Champions Trophy, former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Moin Khan has suggested that Pakistan players shouldn’t get too friendly with their Indian counterparts during the match as it can be perceived as a sign of weakness. India and Pakistan will be locking horns in the biggest group stage clash of the Champions Trophy on February 23 at Dubai International Stadium.
Moin, however, maintained that players should respect each other but at the same time they should remain professional.
“I just don’t get it when I watch Pakistan and India matches these days, as Indian players come into the crease our players check their bats, pat them, have a friendly talk," Moin said while speaking on a podcast by Ushna Shah.
“Nowadays, our players’ behaviour when playing against India is unfathomable to me. Even off the field as professionals you have to have certain boundaries," he added.
Moin Khan, who himself, during his playing days, had been involved in gut-wrenching battles against India, recalled how he was told by his seniors to not talk to Indian players on field as it reflects a sign of weakness. Moin during his career played 69 Tests and 219 ODIs for Pakistan.
“Our seniors always told us that when playing against India give no quarter and no need to even talk to them on the field. When you get friendly, they see it as a sign of weakness," Moin shared
