India are once again gearing up to compete in the Champions Trophy after failing to lift the title in 2017 following their loss against Pakistan in final. India’s squad will feature two of the game’s most experienced players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. The duo is eying a greater comeback in the mega event in the wake of their poor performances in recent assignments. Lately, they have been under intense criticism but they would aim for perfect outings in Champions Trophy.
Nonetheless, both the stars have been in searing form in ODIs, which serves as a huge boost for the team. Currently, India are playing a three-match ODI series against England, which is a final assignment for them in their preparation for Champions Trophy. Rohit Sharma showed his class in second ODI, scoring a match-winning century. Giving his opinion on the duo, former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar stated some powerful remarks.
"Rohit is perhaps the most destructive opening batter in the one-day game, and his striking form is a vital ingredient if India are hoping to regain the Trophy that they won way back in 2013. Not many batters have hit multiple double-hundreds in this format, and Rohit is one of those rare batters who has done so. The reason it is also crucial for the captain of the team to be in form is that he is able to make good decisions while under pressure," Gavaskar wrote in a column for Sportstar
Gavaskar also stated that this will be a big platform for Kohli to score runs and help India win the Champions Trophy. And helping India win the title will motivate Kohli a lot.
"Kohli is a big-match player, and nothing will motivate him more than the opportunity to score runs and win the Champions Trophy for India. After the last Champions Trophy win in 2013, he celebrated with the Gangnam dance, which was the rage way back then. This time, if he helps India win, we could be in for another unique celebration from him," Gavaskar wrote.
