“We all need to take responsibilities”: Pandya calls for batters to step up

Mumbai Indians’ captain Hardik Pandya has urged his team’s batters to ramp up their attack following a disappointing 36-run defeat against Gujarat Titans on Saturday in Ahmedabad. The loss, which saw Mumbai fall short in their chase of 197, highlighted a glaring issue with the team’s batting performance, with Pandya publicly calling for improvement from his top order.

"There should not be a concern but at the moment I think it is time. I mean, we all need to take responsibilities and it's an early stage. But at the same point of time, I think batters have to come to the party. And yeah, hopefully they come soon," Hardik said at the post-match presentation.

Mumbai’s chase got off to a rocky start, with early wickets falling at crucial moments. Star players like Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton failed to set the platform. MI were unable to cope with the pressure and were restricted to a mere 160/6 in their 20 overs. On the other hand, GT openers gave a superb start to the side, setting the platform for a challenging total.

"They batted brilliantly. The way they both batted was quite exceptional. You know, they didn't take chances. They hit good boundaries. They did the right stuff. I think in the powerplay, without high-risk shots, they were able to get those runs. I think that made us go a little [on the] back foot and I think from that time onwards, we were doing catch up,” Pandya said.
