IPL 2025: Punjab decimate LSG to inflict second defeat

Punjab Kings produced a masterclass batting display to secure a crushing eight-wicket win over Lucknow Super Giants at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on Tuesday.
Chasing a target of 172, Punjab comfortably reached 177/2 in just 16.2 overs, with skipper Shreyas Iyer slapping the winning six and completing his fifty. The victory was built on the back of a powerful partnership between Prabhsimran Singh and skipper Shreyas Iyer, who were in scintillating form.
Prabhsimran Singh top-scored with 69 runs. His innings was a masterclass in aggressive batting, as he dispatched LSG bowlers to all parts of the field, hitting nine boundaries and three sixes. Alongside him, in-form Iyer was equally destructive, finishing unbeaten on 52*, guiding the team over the line with relative ease. Iyer, meanwhile, was well supported by impact player Nehal Wadhera, who fired 43 runs unbeaten.
Earlier in the game, LSG had posted a total of 171/7 after being asked to bat. They were pushed to a fighting total by power-hitter Nicholas Pooran, who hammered a quick-fire 44 runs. Pooran’s innings was highlighted by his trademark big hitting, as he provided the only real spark in a rather inconsistent batting performance from LSG. Ayush Badoni also played a crucial supporting role, contributing a solid 41 runs to help build a competitive total. For Punjab, Arshdeep Singh was very effective with the ball, claiming three wickets.
