Sanju Samson handed INR 24 lakh fine for team’s second over-rate offence

Rajasthan Royals’ captain Sanju Samson has been fined INR 24 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate during the match against Gujarat Titans on Wednesday in Ahmedabad. This marks Samson’s first over-rate offence as captain, but the second for the team this season, fetching a heavier penalty.
“As this was his team’s second offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Samson was fined INR 24 lakhs. The rest of the members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, will be fined either INR six lakhs or 25 per cent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser,” a statement from the IPL stated.
Interestingly, the team's first over-rate offence occurred earlier in the tournament, when Ryan Parag was leading the side in Sanju’s absence as skipper because he was purely playing as an impact player. Parag captained the team during the initial three matches of the season. Meanwhile, RR lost the game by 58 runs against GT after failing to chase a total of 217, finishing at 159 all out in 19.2 overs.
