It’s been a topsy-turvy ride for Chennai Super Kings so far in the Indian Premier League, having lost four of their last five matches. Fighting hard to stay afloat in the tournament with repeated failures, CSK have yet to dish out powerful performances. And their recent defeat against Punjab Kings was their fourth successive defeat of the tournament. Meanwhile, there has been growing criticism surrounding the team’s approach and their decision to send legendary MS Dhoni down the order.

But that wasn’t the case against Punjab Kings because Dhoni came to bat higher in the order and bludgeoned 27 off 12 before losing his wicket. Despite playing a stylish innings, Dhoni was unable to take the side over the line. Sharing his views on CSK’s loss, former Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa mentioned that there has been no shortage of intent from MS Dhoni.

"I don't think there was ever a lack of intent from MS Dhoni. Even outside the IPL, I believe he has passed on responsibility to others and given them a clear understanding of what to expect in the coming years as CSK rebuilds into a championship-contending side. That transition is happening, and while we would love to see MS bat the way he is right now, perhaps a little higher up the order, I don't think the problem lies at the end," Uthappa said on JioHotstar.

After kicking off their campaign on a winning note, it has been a nightmare for CSK with four defeats at a stretch. Their next match is against KKR on Friday at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.
