Anil Kumble lauds young CSK talent Dewald Brevis

Chennai Super Kingsā Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 campaign has been the most frustrating so far, with a meagre record of two wins from nine games. They are firmly entrenched in a slump. Their most recent setback, a crushing defeat to Sunrisers Hyderabad on Friday, marked another devastating loss for them.
Despite their struggles, there was a silver lining for CSK, with South African youngster Dewald Brevis playing a powerful innings of 42 off 25 balls. Meanwhile, the former Indian cricketer Anil Kumble was quick to praise the youngster, comparing him to Chris Gayle.
"His ability to play spin really stood out. Chennai isn't easy - it's a two-paced wicket where the odd ball holds up. He's done it before in South Africa, first-class cricket, and in the U-19s, which is how he came into the IPL. He came in as a replacement, wasn't even part of the squad originally - and that reminds me of how one āUniverse Boss' (Chris Gayle) too walked in as a replacement for RCB in 2011 and became an icon. Brevis has all the shots. With Rachin Ravindra, Mhatre, and Pathirana, CSK has a young core to build on. Brevis has the potential to be a long-term asset for the franchise," Kumble said on JioHotstar.
Now, rock-bottom Chennai Super Kings donāt have any hope of making it to the playoffs as they will solely play for pride. Their next clash is against Punjab Kings on Wednesday.
