Lucknow Super Giants’ journey towards the IPL playoffs hit a significant roadblock following a disappointing 37-run defeat at the hands of Punjab Kings on Sunday in Dharamshala. A subpar batting display proved costly for LSG, whose playoff hopes now hang by a thread after the setback. Chasing a competitive target of 237, LSG could put up 199/7 in 20 overs, with their top order struggling to cope with the disciplined Punjab’s bowling attack.

"Definitely too many runs. When you drop crucial catches at the wrong time, it can hurt you badly. We thought it’s gonna do more, but we did not pick the length right at the start. But that is part and parcel of the game," Pant said after the game.

"The dream is still alive. If we can win the next three matches, we can definitely turn around and do amazing things," Pant said.

Rishabh Pant defended his top-order batters Aiden Markram, Mitchell Marsh and Nicholas Pooran, who could not do the job for the side on Sunday.

"It makes sense when your top order is batting well. Every match, you cannot hope for them to come off. It is part of the game, we have to take it deep sometimes. We had too many runs to catch up on and that hurt us badly," he said.
