Former South African cricketer AB de Villiers has hit out at Virat Kohli’s detractors for questioning his strike rate. Kohli, who is currently the highest run-getter in the tournament, has played a valuable role in pushing RCB towards the playoffs. So far, Kohli has amassed 505 runs in 11 innings at an average of 63.12 and a strike rate of 143.46.

He has played an important role in the team’s highly compelling performances with his trademark batting skills, playing a critical role at the top of the order. Meanwhile, RCB’s IPL 2025 campaign has been incredibly successful so far, as they continue to top the points table with eight victories in 11 games. They also have 16 points and a positive NRR of +0.482. The legendary South African praised Kohli for his staggering performances, calling him Mr. Safety.

"Virat is always there. He is Mr. Safety for RCB. When he is there, you don't have to fear. Never fear when Virat is near. That is the story. Nothing has ever changed, and what I want to tell all of you media people, I haven't forgotten. I have the brain of an elephant. To all my journalist friends out there, I love you guys. But remember when you said Virat bats too slow, right? Virat is there batting at almost a 200 strike rate last night. Eat that," de Villiers said in a video shared on Instagram.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru will next face Lucknow Super Giants on Friday at Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
