CSK trounce KKR, shatter playoff hopes

Chennai Super Kings secured a comfortable two-wicket win over Kolkata Knight Riders on Wednesday at Eden Gardens, effectively denting KKR’s hopes of advancing to the playoffs. Despite already being eliminated from the tournament, CSK’s performance was a testament to their resilience, as they managed to chase down a target of 180 with ease, with legendary Dhoni smashing the winning runs.

The chase started with a disappointing blow for CSK, as they lost both of their opening batsmen, Ayush Mhatre and Devon Conway, for ducks. However, the situation quickly shifted thanks to the explosive young talent Dewald Brevis, who took charge of the chase. Brevis’ blistering knock of 52 put CSK back in the game. Down the order, Shivam Dube played a crucial innings of 45 off 40.

Earlier, KKR, deciding to bat, put up a competitive total of 179/6 in 20 overs. Despite not having a game-changing partnership, KKR were well-supported by their captain Ajinkya Rahane, who top-scored with a gritty 48. Along with Manish Pandey’s 36* and Andre Russell’s 38, KKR’s lower order managed to give their side a decent total.
