Indian stalwart Virat Kohli informs BCCI to retire from Test cricket: Reports

Indian stalwart Virat Kohli has reportedly informed BCCI of his intention to retire from Test cricket, according to a report by The Indian Express. Meanwhile, top officials have urged him to reconsider this decision. However, Kohli is yet to respond to the request to reconsider his retirement decision. This development comes days after veteran opener and skipper Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from Test cricket. As per reports, Indian selectors are scheduled to meet in a few days to select the squad for the upcoming England tour.
“He has made up his mind and has informed the board that he is moving on from Test cricket. The BCCI has urged him to rethink as the crucial England tour is coming up. He is yet to revert on the request,” sources told the Indian Express.
The report further stated that Kohli, who has been the cornerstone of India’s batting lineup, has been contemplating his future in Test cricket since the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, where he endured a poor form. Having played 123 Tests for India, Kohli amassed 9,230 runs at an average of 46.85, including 30 centuries. India are scheduled to tour England for the five-match Test series in June.
