“Massive blow to Test cricket”: Former England star on Kohli’s Test retirement

Former England cricketer Moeen Ali has shared his views on Virat Kohli’s recent announcement to retire from Test cricket, calling it a huge blow to the Test cricket. Moeen Ali didn’t hold back in expressing praise for Kohli’s contributions to the game, even drawing a comparison between Kohli and the legendary Sachin Tendulkar. Virat Kohli called time on his 14-year Test career on May 12.
“It’s a massive blow to Test cricket. He was the one pioneer, the one guy in Test cricket that always pushed the format. Amazing player, amazing career. He has done enough. He’s done so much for the game itself, especially in India. I think after Sachin (Tendulkar), he was the guy everybody came to watch, and he filled out stadiums,” Moeen Ali said on Sky Sports.
“Amazing record, a brilliant player to watch as well. The style he played with very competitive, and a brilliant captain as well. A big blow to Test cricket,” Moeen said.
Even stalwart Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from Test cricket on may 7.
"I remember Rohit playing really well the last time they were in England. The character they have, the leaders they (are), both of them have captained India in Test cricket, so yeah a massive loss for the team," he added.
