“If I give the Zimbabwe team to Clive Lloyd”: Ex-Indian players speaks on MS Dhoni’s future in IPL

Former Indian cricketer Atul Wassan, expressing his views on MS Dhoni’s future in IPL, feels that Dhoni will play the IPL next year as well. There have been lots of opinions surrounding Dhoni’s future in the next edition of the IPL, but Wassan feels differently, saying that the legendary batter will play even if he is not 100 percent fit.

Dhoni, recently speaking on his future in IPL, stated that he has 4-5 months to decide. Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings, who endured a frustrating IPL 2025, ended their campaign on a winning note after claiming a stunning 83-run victory over Gujarat Titans in their last league game on Sunday. CSK finished their IPL 2025 campaign at the bottom of the points table with four wins in 14 games. On the other side, MS Dhoni also attracted a lot of criticism for his devastating outing with the bat, scoring just 196 runs from 13 innings at a strike rate of 135.17.

"A captain is as good as the team he gets; if I give the Zimbabwe team to Clive Lloyd, he won't be good either. Dhoni's captaincy should be rated based on the team he got; when he had the team in the past, we all know what he did. In my opinion, captaincy is at times overrated," Wassan said on the Bails and Banter Show on OTTPlay as quoted by Hindustan Times.

Wassan further mentioned that Dhoni's love for the fans keep bringing him back.

"Dhoni is CSK, and CSK is Dhoni. CSK could have been doing good or not alongside Dhoni, but he is still recovering money for the franchise. Dhoni knows that his best days are gone, but he is still playing and facing the criticism. It shows how much attached he is to the franchise. Otherwise, why would someone who has achieved everything put himself in this situation? And I believe he would be up next year as well, despite not being at his 100 percent.”
