“I love big occasions”: Shreyas Iyer on his masterclass knock

Punjab Kings’ captain Shreyas Iyer remained unfazed amid the mounting pressure, blazing an unbeaten 87 to power Kings into the final of the IPL 2025. His innings not only showcased clean hitting but also smart game awareness, as he single-handedly guided PBKS to the final for the first time in 11 years. His knock was rife with eight sixes and five fours as Punjab chased down 203 with an over to spare.
"I don't know, to be honest. I love big occasions. I always say to myself and my colleagues, The bigger the occasion, the calmer you are, and you'll get the best results. I think, today I was focusing on my breathing rather than sweating it out," Iyer said after the match.
Speaking on the intent, Iyer said, “All the players need to be assertive. Show the intent from ball one. They weren't able to capitalise on the start, but the intent was stupendous. Even for me, when I went out there, I had to take some time, but at the other end, batsman was striking pretty well. I know the more time I spend on the field, the better I get, and my vision also gets better."
Punjab will face Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL 2025 final on Tuesday in Ahmedabad. Both sides are eyeing their maiden IPL title.
